US President Donald Trump retweeted a video displaying one of his followers voicing out white power.”
The supporter was amidst a bunch of people who participated in a pro-Trump rally at a retirement building in Florida, the BBC informed.
The footage displayed proponents and opponents of President Trump hurling abuse and cursing one another.
Trump has dismissed the allegations that he is trying to capitalize on racial strains. His spokesperson told that he did not hear the “white power” remark.
In a tweet, which was subsequently deleted, the president expressed gratitude for “the great people of The Villages” – in reference to the retirement neighbourhood of north-west of Orlando where the rally happened. “The Radical Left Do Nothing Democrats will Fall in the Fall. Corrupt Joe is shot. See you soon!!!,” Trump wrote.
The video incorporated in the tweet displayed a Trump follower in a golf cart lifting a clenched fist and yelling “white power”. He emerged to be replying to a protester who termed him a racist and using profanities. Other anti-Trump protesters yelled “Nazi” and other allegations at the people who participated in the rally.
On Sunday, Tim Scott, the sole black Republican in the US Senate, stated in an interview that the video clip was “offensive” and called on the president to withdraw his tweet.
“There’s no question that he should not have retweeted it and he should just take it down,” Scott added.
Judd Deere, White House spokesperson stated that the president “did not hear the one statement made on the video” but observed “tremendous enthusiasm from his many supporters.”
Alex Azar, The US Secretary of Health and Human Services, informed the media that “neither the president, his administration nor I would do anything to be supportive of white supremacy.”
