Ghislaine Maxwell, British socialite and an ex-girlfriend of convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, has been charged in the US after being seized by the FBI.
She is indicted for supporting Epstein’s exploitation of minors by assisting in recruiting and grooming sufferers who are known to be underage.
Upon being caught in New Hampshire, she was brought to court and detained in custody, for the shift to New York.
Ms Maxwell, 58, years old, has earlier denied any participation in or any information of Epstein’s so-called sexual wrongdoing.
Epstein passed away in prison on 10 August as he awaited, without the shot of bail, his trial on sex trafficking charges.
In the previous year, he was caught in New York as a result of claims that he was operating a network of minor girls – few of them as young as 14 – for sex. His death was decided to be as a suicide.
Prosecutors claim that between 1994 and 1997, Ms Maxwell assisted Epstein groom girls as young as 14.
The allegations state that say she would create a rapport with them which involved taking them shopping or even to the movies and would then persuade them into giving Epstein massages in the course of which they were sexually ill-treated
Audrey Strauss, acting US attorney for the southern district of New York told: “Maxwell played a critical role in helping Epstein to identify, befriend and groom minor victims for abuse,”
Although five of the six allegations against her each bear a sentence of five years and with the sixth which is transporting an underage girl with intent to involve in an unlawful sexual activity is indictable by until 10 years in prison.
